& what happened at that interview:

Mr. Forrest showed Er. Pudney the contract made between him and me
and discussed the matter-r. Pudney was quite correct in his
statement made the other day. Er. Forrest explained to r. Pudney
that I was not handling Government, money.
He told you that these monies should not be paid into the account,
That was not on this occasion. I went to see Kr. Pudney with Mr.
Forrest's permission. Then I saw Mr. Pudney and Mr. Forrest together.
I asked Mr. Pudney if he would kindly come over to my office and see
if I am doing anything wrong. He promised to come but he did not
come and the matter was brought up again by Mr. Forrest I remember
sending a minute that nobody had so far come to the General Agent's
office.

No one from the Treasury. So I went again to r. Pudney on 22nd
February with Ar. Forrest's permission and I can give you clearly
the conversation which took place. I pointed out that I was not
coming to see him as the Accountant General but simply as Mr. Pudney
and if he would be so kind as to tell me if I am doing something
wrong how I could remedy it, and if he would come and see what I am
doing and convince himself that I am least not trying to do anything
wrong. He then stated that the moneys which I was handling should
not be paid into the account. He also asked me if I were in a position
to put up $2,000 security. I said I could. He said "and $5,0007
